This is a 100% travel position with a rotation schedule of 3 weeks on/3 weeks off, therefore can live anywhere in the US (preferably along the Gulf or East Coast).

The Opportunity: The Chief Engineer works on board a Hydraulic Division Dredge, often referred to as a Cutter Dredge or Booster, and has overall on-site responsibility and authority for the safety and supervision of the vessels engine room department and maintenance. This is a hands-on management position and is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the dredging equipment, coordinating and assisting with repairs, scheduling preventative maintenance Standard Jobs, and maintaining Critical Spares through the use of GLDDs CMMS ABS Nautical Systems. The Chief Engineer is managed, assigned, and mentored by the Division Maintenance Manager and works closely with the assigned Project Maintenance Superintendent for the Dredge or Booster.

Responsibilities:
– Integrate and lead the Great Lakes? Incident & Injury safety culture in all vessels and engineering-related operations
– Directly supervise the day-to-day engine room operations and maintenance on the dredge
– Oversee and manage activities of vendor repair crews on the dredge and assigned attendants for the Project.
– Manage the computer-based vessel-level preventative maintenance management program (NS5), to include maintenance, regulatory, and inventory documentation and record vessel crew training status and requirements for improvement
– Assign and supervise all activities of the engine room crew
– Ensure proper orientation, familiarization, and mentoring for new crew members. Evaluate the performance of subordinates and recognize, develop, and promote talented crew members
– Mentor all crew members and promote safety awareness in all operations. Lead pre-shift meetings, Job Safety Analyses, and safety -walkarounds- on the dredge and scows
– Coordinate vessel maintenance operations with the Dredge Captain, Project Superintendent and Site Manager.
– Coordinate and communicate equipment issues with the Project Maintenance Superintendent and Site Manager
– Provide daily reports to all project and shore side management.
– Conduct emergency drills as required by the US Coast Guard and keep accurate records
– Ensure vessel meets all regulatory requirements and is properly prepared for agency inspections (Coast Guard, Class, etc.)
